RMS Express is the preferred Winlink 2000 (WL2K) radio email client. It is intended to be used in applications that need to support only a single user and call sign but it may be used to access one or two preset tactical addresses or alternate callsigns. RMS Express includes support for the new sound card mode WINMOR, as well as support for HF Pactor, VHF/UHF packet and direct telnet to WL2K CMS servers using a wide selection of TNCs and multimode controllers. RMS Express is primarily intended for use with the Winlink 2000 system and uses the B2F protocol that supports attachments, multiple addresses and tactical addresses. With WINMOR, RMS Express may also be used peer-to-peer (connecting to other RMS Express clients). RMS Express is licensed for amateur and MARS use only by the Amateur Radio Safety Foundation. Commercial application of RMS Express is not licensed and not permitted. For commercial use contact the authors.
RMS Express may be used as a user client for emergency communications and leverages all the capability of the WL2K system. However before adopting RMS Express as your digital program for emergency communications purposes, please check with your local group for transition plans. This may be your ARES, RACES, MARS etc. group who will be responsible for providing training and support.
System Requirements: 32 or 64 bit Windows OS ( Win XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7 or Windows 2003 Server), or under Windows on the Mac using a VM engine or dual boot arrangement. XP systems will require Microsoft .NET v3.5 runtime installed. There are minimal CPU demands with the exception of WINMOR operation. The heavy DSP demands of WINMOR require a computer of at least 700 MHz Pentium/Celeron class and at least 512 Meg of memory. If multiple applications are running concurrently a faster computer and more RAM may be required.

WINMOR--A New HF Transmission Protocol for Winlink 2000

http://www.winlink.org/images/WINMOR.gif

WINMOR, by Rick Muething KN6KB of the Winlink Development Team, is a new HF radio transmission protocol for the Winlink 2000 system. WINMOR was introduced at the 2008 ARRL / TAPR Digital Communications Conference (http://www.tapr.org/dcc.html) in Chicago on September 26-28, 2008. Unlike PACTOR, only a simple computer soundcard-to-radio interface is required, and it runs as a "virtual TNC" with Paclink and RMS software. Also unlike PACTOR, it is fully documented (http://www.winlink.org/webfm_send/86) and without restrictions or license issues preventing anyone from using the protocol in other software. It has multiple modes, ranging from 200 to 2000 Hertz in bandwidth, and provides raw speeds ranging from 125 to at least 1875 bits per second. WINMOR does NOT replace Pactor but be used in addition to Pactor in the WL2K system. On the HF bands RMS gateway stations will operate either WINMOR or Pactor (1-3). While WINMOR may not equal P2 and P3 in total performance it provides lower cost, higher performance and more robustness than P1. The primary applications will be for low usage EmComm applications where station owners have trouble justifying the high cost and low utilization of a P2 and P3 modem.

See the User Software page (http://www.winlink.org/ClientSoftware) to download the RMS Express client software, which incorporates WINMOR, along with Pactor 1-3, AX.25 packet and Telnet protocols.
WINMOR TNC is available separately to third-party software developers to enable them to incorporate the WINMOR protocol in their software.
